Feminist poetry: Extra Time

They say time waits for no man

but what if you’re a woman

can we have extra time

more minutes as a human.

Extra time without penalties

enough of those in real life

wondering if they’ll kill us

or just marital strife.

Can we slow down time

I don’t mean anti-ageing

I mean the first time you loved

or that landscape you’re painting.

I mean sinking bare feet

into buttery sand

or walking for miles

across green pleasant lands.

I mean dancing in circles

for hours in the rain

or worshipping God

for dissolving our pain.

Can we bend time backwards

rewrite our stories

not the whole thing

just where we deserved more glory.

Can we speed time up

rush through some parts

where we’re told to ‘lean in’

to jobs that crush our hearts.

Can we expand time

or maybe our consciousness

learn who we really are

and if there’s God, what he wants from us.

Can we relive time

go back to our childhood

summer days and iced lollies

I think we would if we could.

Time waits for no man

but if you’re a woman

we deserve extra time

more hours as a human.
